Home Renovations
After living in my crappy house for about ten years I figured it was finally time to start working on it. I have a lot of plans for it which include knocking out a load bearing wall, installing a kitchen hood and cook island and new sinks, etc. But to start out I wanted to work on my bathroom first since it was the most ancient.
The bathroom was an ugly white color originally with a old school sink and ugly wood siding. It had carpet on the floor and a toilet that rocked when you sat on it. So I imagined how easy it would be just pulling everything up and then installing tile floors. I took a class at home depot and it seemed pretty simple. Just pull up that floor and start laying tile right? WRONG. Under the carpet was some kind of linoleum that was peeling so I had to pull that up and then discovered that the wood was rotten underneath. That meant I had to pull the floor up to the floorboards and install a new plywood floor and then cement board, then tile. While I was doing that I pulled up that wood siding and it tore the surface of the drywall off. So I had to refinish the drywall and sand it smooth. That meant my three day project turned into a eight day project rather quickly!

It was pretty scary, here's what it looked like when I started taking that siding off

Scary sight isn't it? This is the floor after I removed the rotten floor down to the floorboards and removed the sink and toilet.

Not as scary eh? After laying in the 5/8" plywood and screwing it in I laid down the cement board and cemented it in.

Almost done, the room has been painted, new toilet and new sink and vanity installed. Tiled/grouted the floor and added a new electrical outlet and filled in the old medicine cabinet and installed a new wall cabinet which you can't see. I also installed a big mirror later on and right now I'm just trying to decide what moulding to put in!
